Prof Mohammad Abdul Bari

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Prof Mohammad Abdul Bari specialises in all aspects of knee surgery and also primary hip replacement. My NHS practice is based at Tameside General Hospital near Manchester.

His knee practice covers all aspects of knee surgery, from sports injuries to arthritis of the knee. He performs arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, cruciate ligament reconstruction and both total and partial knee replacements. His specialist areas of interest include cruciate ligament injuries,cartilage injuries, osteochondral defect resurfacing and tendinopathies around the knee.

He graduated from Calcutta and started postgraduate training in England in 1990.I had extensive training in Trauma And Orthopaedics in the UK. His specialist interest has always been the practice of knee surgery and joint replacements.

He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, the British Orthopaedic Association,American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and founder member of the British Indian Orthopaedic Society(BIOS).

Throughout my career, he has regularly been involved in research, audit and teaching. He has presented his research in publications and at national and international meetings.

At Tameside , he has been the Audit Lead and contributed to the improvement of elective services.
He is also a Royal college examiner and Royal College Tutor. He trains orthopaedic specialist registrars from the northwest deanery.

He has been regularly appraised and revalidated.
